fosters home for imaginary friends was an awful dystopia and no one talks about it at all

hollyblueagate

just a few things established in the fosters universe

  • imaginary friends are sentient people and everyone can see them
  • 8 years old is considered too old to have an imaginary friend
  • a large amount of imaginary friends get thrown out on the street legally. At several points they talk about how they had nowhere to go and just wandered around. In Good Wilt Hunting you see a neighborhood full of imaginary friends that live on the street
  • this is such an issue there’s shelter(s). there’s absolutely political debates about this.
  • imaginary friends have rights, but not the same rights as humans (they can hold jobs and need passports and such but they can be confiscated/held as property and apparently killed without any legal issues)
  • babies imagine abstract, swarming friends, kids imagine normal friends, anyone older tends towards violent monsters that have to be locked up to keep them from attacking people
  • at one point, someone imagines a friend and eats it because they’re hungry

image
  • this is all just treated as facts of life

the only reason humans don’t kill themselves en masse is bc we are distractable. literally the only reason. “go to sleep, you’ll feel better in the morning” is cruel in its accuracy. yes I do “feel better” in the morning and how annoying is that, that 8 hours ago all the transcendent reasons to terminate my existence were clear as day and now with some sleep my brain has stuffed them into the back of a drawer so I can continue plodding on and what was I so upset about anyway? time makes all commitments and resolves stale. if I could sustain awareness for more than 5 minutes I would’ve checked out a long time ago, but instead I operate in a twilight state, awake enough to be cognizant of this misery factory we call life but never so much as to do something about it. actually it’s laughable. like: I want to exit the only thing I’ve ever known, want to exit this plane of existence despite having absolutely no idea what comes after if anything, but first let me check my phone. do you know what I mean? do you know what I mean? do you know what I mean? do you know what I mean?

An estimated 5 million women in India joined forces to form a human chain to protest gender inequality and a Hindu temple’s centuries-old ban on all women of “menstruating age.”

On Jan. 1, 2019, women in Kerala, southern India, joined to form a 385-mile (620km) “women’s wall” to protest the persistent barring of women from the Sabarimala temple, which has historically banned women aged between 10 and 50.

After the formation of the protest, two women entered the temple for the first time following the lifting of the ban by the Supreme Court in September 2018. Per the BBC, protesters have since attacked women who’ve attempted to enter the temple.

Good point.

A lot of the problem with the movies Disney is remaking as “live action’ is that they’re not MEANT to be live action. Many of them had a distinct use of art style, talking animals, and visual elements that simply don’t look as nice in a hyperrealistic medium no matter how well you apply special effects. And a lot of elements are so fantastical that you’d need copius amounts of CGI to replicate it in ‘real’ life but you still wouldn’t get the same feel.

The digitally-rendered animals in The Lion King look awkward. Dumbo looks nightmarish with his humanlike eyes. Beauty and the Beast felt lackluster with its dull realism instead of the saturated animation.

Now, Atlantis and Treasure Planet would work brilliantly in a realistic medium because it deals with mostly-human characters and visual effects in those movies would transition flawlessly into live action. The alien creatures of Treasure Planet, the pirate’s ships and technology would look beautiful if rendered into realism. Atlantis would work even better with an all-human cast and their technology, and it’d doubly work as a chance to cast nonwhite actors into lead roles.
